Maria will be performing at Cafe' Circa, this coming Monday, June 23rd. Her sets have been nothing short spontaneous fun! She performs with Jez Graham (keys) and Chris Burroughs (drums). Her 1-hour set begins at 9:30pm and ends at 10:30pm, so you want to arrive early.

Cafe' Circa is located at 464 Edgewood Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30312 (near the corner of Edgewood and Boulevard). The food is excellent and the atmosphere is just the same. For more info - log onto www.cafecircaatl.com or call (404) 477-0008 and ask for owners, Kevin or Randy.

Casual sophistication meets timeless character at Cafe' Circa. If you live in the ATL, hope to see you there...if not, please pass the word! Thanks in advance!

Musically yours...www.mariahowell.com

JAZZISTS LISA MARKLEY & BRUCE BALMER:
Kerrville newlyweds bring their own brand of jazz to the House Concert stage at Fairfield Studios.

Texas jazz vocalist Lisa Markley just tied the knot with longtime collaborator, guitarist and songwriter Bruce Balmer. For the occasion, the couple chose one of their favorite haunts— The annual Kerrville Folk Festival in the hill country southwest of Austin.

Singer/songwriter Markley blends folk, jazz and blues influences, with her recent projects focusing her acclaimed vocal talents on the jazz genre. Lisa has won the B.W. Stevenson Songwriting Contest, received honorable mention in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest (in both the Jazz and Folk categories) and is a three-time regional finalist at the Kerrville Fok Festival.

Among her musical influences, she credits Sarah Vaughan, Joni Mitchell, Carlos Jobin, Duke Ellington, Cole Porter and Ricky Lee Jones.

Bruce Balmer's childhood home was the Catskill Mountains of New York state. Born into a very musical family, early on Bruce was exposed to old pop tunes from the 30's and 40's.
Piano lessons started at age five, then he eventually added guitar in his teen years. Following a formal music education, Bruce became a touring musician, dividing his talents between guitar and piano. An accomplished songwriter, Bruce has also composed for jazz dance and ballet (and has music credits on a Bill Plympton animated film).

SELECTED REVIEWS ABOUT “BAMISPHERE” & "SONG ZIN'..."

This sunny set of African-flavored vocal jazz is fresh, surprising and utterly unique...
Sitson's launches his stunningly pliant voice into high register arcs, eerie sound effects and vocal/body-percussion.
Forrest Dylan Bryant/JAZZ TIMES

That voice is a marvelous instrument...
Gino Sitson is a talented musician with a clear vision of what he wants to achieve, so he is well worth investigating.
Ken Dryden/ALL MUSIC GUIDE

Although he has earned a reputation as a singer of extraordinary agility, Sitson is far more than a formidable voice. His approach is abstract, joyous, and integrates as much jazz as it does traditional music. He is his own man when it comes to his art, and defies easy categorization.
CALABASHMUSIC.COM

Gino Sitson is his own stand-alone musical phenomenon.
CUNY TV

An extraordinarily pliable voice in settings rich with melody, emotion and rhythm
(…), his gift for melody and his persuasive powers for interpretation establish
an instant connection for listeners (…) always fascinating.
Don Heckman / LOS ANGELES TIMES

There are few musicians who can come anywhere near Gino Sitson in vocal acrobatics and dexterity.
Daniel Brown / MONDOMIX

Sitson is a stunningly versatile vocalist with a cunning imagination and
a seemingly endless capacity to create colorfully layered vocal sounds (…)
his music has evolved into a magical blending of traditional elements from
his native land and the urban swing of New York (…) the results are consistently
compelling — producing more fascinating results with each hearing.
Don Heckman / LOS ANGELES TIMES (Jazz Spotlight)

FRANCE:

Sortie française de Bamisphere, le troisieme opus du Camerounais
installe a New York. Virtuosite et liberte en sont les maitres-mots.
L’Afrique et le jazz y servent de pretexte pour un ultime numero
d’acrobatie vocale aux messages clairs et sans complexes aucuns.
Soeuf Elbadawi / RFI MUSIQUE

(Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Nelson Mandela, Charles Mingus), Sitson transmet
en langue medumba ses messages de liberte, de tolerance, de justice, de creativite. (…)
Portes par des acrobaties vocales, subtiles et ludiques...

"I think that what Jaijai Jackson has done with the Jazz Network shows how the eternal love for this music is passed down from generation to generation. The fire her father lit in her has burned brightly and has inspired her to pass this torch on to future generations. I'm very proud to be featured and I'm very happy that Jazz has a voice and spirit like Jaijai looking after it."

“But let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between us. Love one another, and let the love be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.”

This is how I have felt and continue to feel since I joined The Jazz Network on March 4th 2008.
If we look back at our Village Elders one sees how they worked together to achieve and be innovative, and thanks to Jaijai and thejazznetwork.ning we are able to continue on the same path as our Village Elders.

What a great place you have created, Jaijai. Thank you so much for your dedication and vision. We musicians benefit immensely, as it brings us closer together, allows for many of us to reconnect, or discover each other for the first time. I am still getting acquainted with the enormous benefits of having this independent place for communication between all of us - artists, fans, promoters, etc., and it is a real honor for me to be featured on the Jazz Network Main Page.

Hi Jaijai,

Stopping by to show you some love and tell you just how much I appreciate all you've been doing here, not just for me but for this incredible community of jazz musicians. I see that The Jazz Network is growing in leaps and bounds daily and want you to know that I recognize the importance of what's going on here, musicians having a place to connect with each other, young musicians having a place to meet and be mentored by musicians who have been around the block. You've created a beautiful space here and it's obvious that folks are feeling very much at home. Thanks for sharing your time, your heart, your soul. This is a huge commitment and you've taken it on with such determination. I wish you and The Jazz Network continued success and support you in all you're doing.
