Karrin Allyson divided up her very tasty one and a half hour set at the Seville Theater, in San Diego, into three parts. She did some gutsy blues, some suave Brazilian and some very traditional jazz lines, such as Jordu, all to an appreciative sold out audience. With a very steady and supporting group in back of her she displayed her now classic and very identifiable voice to perfection. Backed by Guitarist, Larry Koonse, bassist, Tom Warrington and Todd Strait on drums, whether playing the blue…

Greetings:
It's June 22, 2008 - it has been as hot as a miner’s oven here in Southern California. I was out at the woodshed up in Griffith Park yesterday. Hot, but it was beautiful. I had a good time, did some good playing, some good sheding, drank lots of water, and poured tons of water over my head to cool down after each 1 hour (or more) solo drumming session. The beauty of playing outdoors is something that I simply cannot get enough of. Mother Nature, the wildlife, the wilderness, the sere…

A good singer does not have to live what he or she sings. They are a vessel of communication. If they are doing their craft right, they should be able to get the writer's intent across to the listener.
Billie Holiday and Frank Sinatra were exceptions. They personally experienced many things they sang about taking it to the highest level of communication. They made it sound like they were singing directly to you - this is art!
When a modern day songstress sings 'Willow Weep F… Continue

Has it ever occurred to you to teach a youngster WHY they make music?
It is historically known that we as a people have used music as a tool for various reasons. Upon our forced migration to this country the 2 main sources of communication among our people were removed, our tribal language and the DRUM. Our combined creativeness coupled with the need to subversively communicate among one another started the musical work song tradition. Songs that were sung to the swing of the hoe, pick or axe a…

I'm really proud of the work and grateful for the sales and response from the James Taylor fans. I'm selling my CD "Sabor" at his gigs and it is moving like hot cakes!
I'm up on CD Baby for really quick sales, Napster, and Amazon just joined in among a few others. The digital thing takes a minute, but when it starts rolling it's like the Temptations say, " A snowball rolling down the side of a snow covered hill".
I believe I will claim prosperity now!
