I am happy to announce the Jazz Network, its been long overdue and well, "somebody had to do it"....its "our place", a place to speak out, to support and mentor...a place where we have a voice...I hope you all agree...feel free to market yourselves as much as you'd like. I want this jazz effort to be global!! Jazz Festivals, buyers of venues, all those out there that support jazz in its presentation, please peruse the pages of the wonderful artistry that is here, we all need to work and engage in the gifts we have been given musically, for here you have a targeted audience of "jazz"....I want every area of business that supports jazz to join this community, for if we don't help each other, jazz will slowly wither away....I don't know about you but I live to keep it alive....I hope you will join me...

well, this isn't the first (there's jazz corner, All about jazz, jazz.com, organissimo.org/forum, among others), but more are always appreciated.
Ways to make the jazz community more thriving? Support the artists. Listen good, listen hard, and convince people to go see them. And convince them to spend lots of money at whatever club, restaurant, bar, grocery store or coffee shop they're at seeing live music. The only way to ensure that jazz stays alive is to ensure that it remains a living and breathing thing. Which only happens when people are playing the music.

Thanks JazzyPaul for your comment. Well received!! I know I'm not the first to create a space for jazz, I'm just another voice giving a unique platform for those that wouldn't normally be given a chance to be heard.

I'll find out if they have that component or willing to add it! There is a universal chat in the gadget section, I went there but it was too early for our network, We should outline a scheduled chat for all to jump in on, we'd have to put that widget/gadget on our pages to enter in. That is as close to home as we get in the early stages of the site. I'll look into it, whats a good day for all?

One thing that they have on www.raleighmusic.com is a Resources section. Notice that there are links for different categories like venues, musicians, etc.
Just a thought!

Your effort with God's favor and all the Jazz musicians working together for a greater cause then self, jazz will live on. Then watch, you'll see as history repeats itself as it always do! Jazz will again rise and dominate the music charts.
I would like see a way for the musicians to be able to connect with each other on a city by city, area by area base. To be able to put in a zip code and get a listing for all the musicians in that area. Also to be able to pull up a musicians by instrument. That would help everyone to find what they need and help with maybe the missing piece to a project. I think that could be helpful.

I dont know if this is already happening ,but it would be cool if there was a pod show or radio show JUST for the jazz network artist, with certain nights designated to the variouse genres, this would really motivate us artist to feel good about who we are and what we do!......just my two cents.....Melvin.

INSPIRATIONAL CORNER
Uncle Hugh 'Peanuts' Whalum is my 80 year-old uncle who has FORGOTTEN more about jazz than I've even learned yet! He released his CD "Introducing Hugh 'Peanuts' Whalum" after gigging in the St. Louis scene for over 55 years! Needless to say his voice, his saxophone, his piano... like a fine, aged Merlot. His energy?! I dare not try and keep up. I'm on stage falling asleep by the time he gets going good – cut from a different cloth. Arnette, Coleman, Hamp, Hank... fine cloth.
Why do I bring them up? Because they represent something really important that we now get to enjoy, like they did back then, but now through technology on sites like this, that we've been missing.
The good news, since family – in this case JAZZ FAMILY – and relationships are much more important, more fulfilling... is that I feel RICHER knowing and following you guys music on THE JAZZ NETWORK!

Finding THE JAZZ NETWORK has been an amazing experience for Musique Noire. The opportunity to not only gain exposure among the jazz community, but to also learn and network with others in the jazz world has been invaluable. It is a place where we are all treated equally, whether one is a major label act or an indie artist, whether one plays traditional jazz or any of the "branches" of the jazz Family "tree".

Jaijai, what a wonderful mission you've undertaken to create such a place for artistic minds to meet and share their hearts. A place to renew faded determinations, and revive lessened momentums. A place to display our wares and reconfirm to one another that we actually are on the right track.
I commend you, Jaijai, for caring so much that you created this castle of the heart for all of us. I want to share my praise for all of the new friends as well as old friends that I've met and will meet here in our castle. I am so honored to be on The Jazz Network with so many wonderful and dedicated musicians. Jazz is the truly American art form and as I travel to other countries I find that their appreciation for jazz is really uplifting. There are so many excellent jazz musicians around the world now and The Jazz Network is helping us to find each other. Thank goodness for people like Jaijai who have dedicated so much time and effort to keep the jazz community together and for opening doors to us that we may never have found.
Regarding education in jazz, having done Master Classes in many places I find students need to take time and learn from the Masters and LISTEN. They should go back in history to appreciate ALL styles of jazz and its development. They need to learn melodies and lyrics (yes, even instrumentalists need to know lyrics) and that jazz is not just a series of modes and riffs. I think The Jazz Network can be an excellent tool for that also.
