Tell us a little about you....
If you were to chart the evolution of Victor Williams's musical career, the chart would look like a tree with many branches -- some a little shorter, some intertwined with branches of others. But one thing is for sure, his metaphoric career "tree " is definitely growing, growing, and growing.

Consider first the list of the distinguished talents with whom he has performed or recorded with. They include Dennis Chambers, John McLaughlin, Najee', Gary Thomas, Wil Calhoun, Chester Thompson, Vinx , John Scofield, Gary Grainger, George Duke, Anthony Jackson, Bob Berg, Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin and Yolanda Adams. His work with these musicians has expanded his talent and exposed Victor to a wide variety of people and settings, from one-room nightspots to the White House.

In 1991 Victor recorded "Getting Even" for one of the greatest drummers in history, Dennis Chambers. The recording was done in New York City with greats like John Scofield, Anthony Jackson, Bob Berg, Jimmi Tunnel, Jim Beard and Gary Grainger.

It was a performance back in 1992 that found him in front of probably his most prominent audience to date -- President Bill Clinton and his inaugural entourage. Aside from the distinguished crowd he played to that night, the performance was taped and aired for the Disney Channel. Victor performed as a member of the house band with musical director George Duke for artists Vannessa Williams, Boyz II Men and Celene Dion.

From 1992 through 1997 Victor worked mostly in the studio recording television and radio Commercials along with several artist in the Baltimore, Washington DC area.

In 1997, Victor recieved a call from legendary guitarist John McLaughlin which later resulted in a studio recording, "John Mclaughlin and The Heart of Things". This recording lead to a 1998 twenty counrty European Tour. The band, Dennis Chambers, Matthew Garrison, Gary Thomas and Otmaro Ruiz, lengendary in themselves, was considered one of the hottest bands ever on stage. This resulted in a live recording, "John McLaughlin and The Heart of Things, Live in Paris."

From 1998 thru 2003 Victor became the studio percussionist for," The Basement Boys Production." During the years with the Basement Boys Victor recorded serveral recordings for Dance/House Music. It is that time he recording on a Vinx recording,"Through Colored Folf Eyes" and " Crystal Waters - Crystal Waters."

In 2001 Victor again showed his versital style of playing as he joined Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClukin and Yolanda Adams in the famous "Hopeville Gospel Tour". That was a east coast United States tour that ended at Constitution Hall in Washington DC.

In 2005 Victor showed his versital style of playing again when began recording Blues CD's with Severn Records. He recorded Lou Pride's,"Keep On Believing and Tad Robinson's "New Point of View."

In 2006 Victor teamed up with Guitarist Song writer John Grant for the production of the their debut recording, self titled, True Spirit. Victor and John enlisted the help of Dennis Chambers and Blues Webb on drums, Najee' flute and sax, Gerg Karukus keys, Gary Grainger Bass, Benjie Porecki Keys and Dave Fairall on Sax.

In 2007 Victor recorded Najee's CD release, "Rising Sun." Which debut #1 on Bill Boards Contemporay Jazz Chart in September of 2007. Victor is now the percussionist for Najee and currently on Tour.

A strong, emotional player, Victor captivates audiences with his ability to play rhythmically and melodically. He skillfully syncopates and anticipates the movement of the music, while creating a firm foundation for each band member with whom he plays.

Performing with talents like Dennis Chambers and Larry Bright, Victor has developed his own distinctive musical character. Victor's musical approach to percussion, influenced by percussionists Bill Summers, Don Alias and Giovanni Hidalgo, combines African and Latin conga patterns with a touch of jazz and funk and groove, to project his unique sound.

Victor endorses Pearls Elite Congas and Percussion and Sabian Cymbals.

Whenever I think of African percussionists, I first think of Kimati Dinizulu. Now I can add Victor Williams to that short list. Keep playin' that wonderful stuff!

It’s a rare occasion when you meet someone who you feel a real connection to … Someone who possesses a kind spirit, unyielding generosity and a dedication to the jazz community beyond expectations.

Jaijai, thank you so much for creating such a fantastic website for the jazz community. You’ve helped artists connect with each other around the world.

I’m proud to have The Jazz Network be the first site to promote my latest recording. Words cannot express my gratitude to you for your dedication to the music and the artists.

Hi Jaijai,

Stopping by to show you some love and tell you just how much I appreciate all you've been doing here, not just for me but for this incredible community of jazz musicians. I see that The Jazz Network is growing in leaps and bounds daily and want you to know that I recognize the importance of what's going on here, musicians having a place to connect with each other, young musicians having a place to meet and be mentored by musicians who have been around the block. You've created a beautiful space here and it's obvious that folks are feeling very much at home. Thanks for sharing your time, your heart, your soul. This is a huge commitment and you've taken it on with such determination. I wish you and The Jazz Network continued success and support you in all you're doing.

“But let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between us. Love one another, and let the love be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.”

This is how I have felt and continue to feel since I joined The Jazz Network on March 4th 2008.
If we look back at our Village Elders one sees how they worked together to achieve and be innovative, and thanks to Jaijai and thejazznetwork.ning we are able to continue on the same path as our Village Elders.

What a great place you have created, Jaijai. Thank you so much for your dedication and vision. We musicians benefit immensely, as it brings us closer together, allows for many of us to reconnect, or discover each other for the first time. I am still getting acquainted with the enormous benefits of having this independent place for communication between all of us - artists, fans, promoters, etc., and it is a real honor for me to be featured on the Jazz Network Main Page.
