I love this smooth jazz group, and I’m awaiting their new album, “Play” which is being released Oct. 28th.

I wanted to share a free download I found of the single “Ode to Joy” off the new album, so I hope you enjoy it!

PIANO LISTENERS replied by alan @ Sun, 05 Oct 2008 19:20:24 -0000

Allen55, as far as I can determine, pianist Harold Corbin recorded only once, as the leader of a trio that included bassist Spanky DeBrest and drummer Eddie Campbell. That session was originally released in 1961 on a Roulette LP titled “The Driving New Jazz Piano.” It was reissued in 2007 on an import CD (Toshiba EMI Japan 6176), retitled “Soul Brother,” and is available at Amazon.com. Check this out:

I hope that helps. – Alan Kurtz, Music Review Editor, jazz.com

I AM LOOKING TO HEAR FROM SOMEONE WHO MAY HAVE HEARD OF, OR HEARD SOMETHING BY HAROLD CORBIN, A PIANO PLAYER WHO LIVE IN PHILLY WHEN HE PASSED AWAY, HIS WIFE’S NAME IS BETTY AND THEY LIVED IN THE MT. AIRY SECTION OF PHILLY. I CANNOT FIND ANYTHING HE DID AS A SIDEMAN OR IF HE HAD HIS OWN GROUP.

AccuRadio announces new jazz subchannels "Covering All the Bassists" & "Jazz Fusion" posted by AccuJazz @ Mon, 29 Sep 2008 18:38:12 -0000

Leading webcaster AccuRadio.com recently made public two brand new internet jazz radio stations: “Covering All the Bassists” and “Jazz Fusion.” The two new radio streams join eleven current jazz subchannels ranging from the catch-all “All That Jazz” to “Piano Jazz,” and “New School.”

“Covering All the Bassists” joins “Piano Jazz,” “Saxophone Jazz,” “Jazz Vocals” and “Guitar Jazz” as an instrument-specific channel. While the jazz bassist is often relegated to a background role, the AccuRadio channel showcases music that puts the spotlight on these under-appreciated bottom-end players. Listeners will enjoy music from bass players who double as band leaders, like Charles Mingus, Ray Brown and Dave Holland. They will also hear music from other instrumentalists who give their bassists time to shine in solo spots.

“Jazz Fusion” joins “Old School,” “New School,” “Latin Infusion” and “West and Cool” as a genre-specific channel. The channel casts a large net into the world of jazz fusion, covering everything from early groove-jazz to jazz-rock and world fusion. Miles Davis’ early avant-garde experiments with jazz-rock play alongside John McLaughlin’s guitar wizardry and Medeski Martin and Wood’s ultra-hip neo-jazz.

AccuRadio and its jazz brand, AccuJazz, will begin rolling out over 20 new channels in the coming months, including more genre-specific, instrument-specific, and region-specific channels, as well as some other bizarre creations by the jazz programming team.

Hi Jaijai,

Stopping by to show you some love and tell you just how much I appreciate all you've been doing here, not just for me but for this incredible community of jazz musicians. I see that The Jazz Network is growing in leaps and bounds daily and want you to know that I recognize the importance of what's going on here, musicians having a place to connect with each other, young musicians having a place to meet and be mentored by musicians who have been around the block. You've created a beautiful space here and it's obvious that folks are feeling very much at home. Thanks for sharing your time, your heart, your soul. This is a huge commitment and you've taken it on with such determination. I wish you and The Jazz Network continued success and support you in all you're doing.

“But let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between us. Love one another, and let the love be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.”

This is how I have felt and continue to feel since I joined The Jazz Network on March 4th 2008.
If we look back at our Village Elders one sees how they worked together to achieve and be innovative, and thanks to Jaijai and thejazznetwork.ning we are able to continue on the same path as our Village Elders.

What a great place you have created, Jaijai. Thank you so much for your dedication and vision. We musicians benefit immensely, as it brings us closer together, allows for many of us to reconnect, or discover each other for the first time. I am still getting acquainted with the enormous benefits of having this independent place for communication between all of us - artists, fans, promoters, etc., and it is a real honor for me to be featured on the Jazz Network Main Page.
