Tell us a little about you....
Tony Grey was born in Newcastle, England in 1975 where music was just another family member.

At the age of 18 Tony broke his back in a horrific car accident. It was during his recovery he started playing the bass and whilst under the watchful eye of legendary guitarist John McLaughlin, Tony successfully auditioned for a scholarship to the world-renowned Berklee College Of Music in Boston.

Whilst at Berklee, Tony took time out to join the newly formed pop band ‘Bliss’. The group had signed a major record deal with the legendary record producer Terry Ellis who in the past discovered Billy Idol, Jethro Tull, Blondie, Huey Lewis & The News, and Pat Benitar. Tony spent the next 18 months touring with the group throughout Asia. After appearing on several TV shows in Asia, recording three hit singles, filming videos, which featured on MTV, and achieving a top ten CD, Tony left the group in order to return to the USA to complete his studies at Berklee. During his time at Berklee, Tony studied with some of the greatest teachers - Kenwood Denard, Larry Watson, Bruce Gertz, and Rich Appleman. During his remaining 4 semesters Tony won the prestigious Outstanding Performer Award!

Since graduating, Tony has led many clinics & master classes at Berklee and has appeared in many of the college’s showcase events including a tribute concert to U.S. Pop Legends Steely Dan hosted by the president of Berklee and attended by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of Steely Dan.

Tony graduated from Berklee with high honours in May 2001. He has gone on to perform with some of the world’s greatest musicians - such as: John Mclaughlin, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Dennis Chambers, Zakier Hussain, Gary Husband, Brian Blade, Mike Stern, Wayne Krantz, Steve Lukather (Toto) Branford Marsalis, Simon Philips (Toto), Dave Holland, Kenwood Denard (Sting, Miles Davis), Russell Ferante (The Yellow Jackets), David Fiuczynski (Screaming Headless Torsos, Me’shell NdegeOcello), Hiromi, Larry Watson, Ava Rovatti, Jetro Da Silva (Whitney Houston, Patti Austin), Toby Lightman, Gavin DeGraw, David Garfield, Frank McComb, David Nichtern, Gene Lake (David Sanborn), Dave DiCenso, Oliver Rockberger, Falguni, Deantoni Parks, Lionel Loueke (Wayne Shorter, Charlie Haden), Oz Noy, Sam Kiniger (Soul Live), Charles Haynes (The Squad) and Kelly Buchanan.

Earlier in 2004, Tony had the great honour of performing at New York’s Lincoln Centre with David Nichtern’s band ‘Drala’ for His Holiness the Dali Lama!

Hi Tony,
Thanks for adding me as a friend. I really enjoy your bass playing and music. I'm a very old John McLaughlin fan and when 'Inner Mounting Flame came out 1971 it was like I found my music. Tell me more about how you meet John. I saw him live in Europe and USA with different formations and enjoy his music until today. We share the music from a lot of the musicians you mentioned ,some of them I don't know but I will check out their music. I was very busy at Fender the last weeks or it is months now and had not much time to write to people.
Take care Michael

It’s a rare occasion when you meet someone who you feel a real connection to … Someone who possesses a kind spirit, unyielding generosity and a dedication to the jazz community beyond expectations.

Jaijai, thank you so much for creating such a fantastic website for the jazz community. You’ve helped artists connect with each other around the world.

I’m proud to have The Jazz Network be the first site to promote my latest recording. Words cannot express my gratitude to you for your dedication to the music and the artists.

With much love and gratitude,

Hi Jaijai,

Stopping by to show you some love and tell you just how much I appreciate all you've been doing here, not just for me but for this incredible community of jazz musicians. I see that The Jazz Network is growing in leaps and bounds daily and want you to know that I recognize the importance of what's going on here, musicians having a place to connect with each other, young musicians having a place to meet and be mentored by musicians who have been around the block. You've created a beautiful space here and it's obvious that folks are feeling very much at home. Thanks for sharing your time, your heart, your soul. This is a huge commitment and you've taken it on with such determination. I wish you and The Jazz Network continued success and support you in all you're doing.

“But let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between us. Love one another, and let the love be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.”

This is how I have felt and continue to feel since I joined The Jazz Network on March 4th 2008.
If we look back at our Village Elders one sees how they worked together to achieve and be innovative, and thanks to Jaijai and thejazznetwork.ning we are able to continue on the same path as our Village Elders.

It's been uplifting, comforting and facinating to meet fellow musicians from cultures and countries around the world."

What a great place you have created, Jaijai. Thank you so much for your dedication and vision. We musicians benefit immensely, as it brings us closer together, allows for many of us to reconnect, or discover each other for the first time. I am still getting acquainted with the enormous benefits of having this independent place for communication between all of us - artists, fans, promoters, etc., and it is a real honor for me to be featured on the Jazz Network Main Page.
