Tell us a little about you....
I have been performing professionally since 1972 where he studied with the late great African-American pianist Horace Tapscott in Los Angeles, California. This led to a lifetime relationship with Tapscott's Pan-African People's Arkestra, during this time I served as assistant conductor as well as arranger, composer, copier and player of saxophone, clarinet and flute. I have performed from coast to coast in the U.S. and in the last 16 years in Europe, both leading my own ensemble as well as sharing the stage with such greats as Walter Bishop Jr., Jimmy Garrison, Bill Shadrack Cole, Charles Owens, Jeff Littleton, Rudy Stevenson, Wole Soyinke, Ed Blackwell, Arthur Blythe, Queen Negus H. Somayah Moore-Kambui and the Black Belt Symphony, Arto Tuncboyaciyan, Danny Harper, Eddie Davis, Joe Jennings, Joe Bowie, Hal Singer, Sugar Blue, Michael Session, Sha'Ifa, Nedra Wheeler, Abdu Salim, Dick de Graaf, Abraham Burton, Ed Schuller, Joseph Bowie, Omar Sosa, Winard Harper to name only a few.

My professional credits include three films. My theater credits include the writing of original scores for three plays as well as performing roles in these plays, the most well known . . . "Yardbird's Vamp", performed in Atlanta, Georgia and in Berlin, Germany.
My music is as diverse as my musical experiences during my life. I feature in my ensemble the bassists Stanislaw Michalak from Poland and Max Hughes from San Diego, drummers Kenny Martin from New York and Nirankar Khalsa from Madrid, and pianists Reggie Moore from New York, Rolf Zielke, Sjan Pho Duc and Tino Derado from Germany.
I also have a Latin Jazz group where I feature Pina Lopez and Daniel Allen Oberto from Cuba. With these groups I perform original compositions from all the members of these ensemble as well as playing different and "fresh" new musical pieces from established composers and performers from all around the world.

Since 2006 I have been performing in a new group called "The Horace Tapscott Memorial Ensemble". We are performing compositions from my late teacher and mentor Mr. Horace Tapscott. (www.posi-tone.com/tapscott/). He was a musician, community activist and a hero in Los Angeles who dedicated his life to creating, performing and preserving the music of the African American community in Los Angeles, California so that our children after us and generations afterwards would know and remember the contributions that we’ve made as artististic members of this community before them. He had been involved with many famous and well known international musicians, as well as many famous musicians being involved with his organization which included the likes of Azar Lawrence, David Murray and Arthur Blythe.
He was the founder of the Union of God's Musicians and Artist Ascension (U.G.M.A.A:) and the Pan African Peoples Arkestra both founded in 1962 which I have been a member of since 1973 and which still exist today. There are 3 books written about his contributions in Los Angeles; “Central Avenue Sounds”, “Songs of the Unsung” and “The Dark Tree”. He died in 1999 but he is well known and remembered on the international scene as a great composer and performer.

In 2007 I worked as the music director of a traveling show called "AFRICA AFRICA" for several months www.afrika.pte-ag.eu/.

In May 2008 I will release my 4th CD which we are in the studio currently mixing and mastering.

It’s a rare occasion when you meet someone who you feel a real connection to … Someone who possesses a kind spirit, unyielding generosity and a dedication to the jazz community beyond expectations.

Jaijai, thank you so much for creating such a fantastic website for the jazz community. You’ve helped artists connect with each other around the world.

I’m proud to have The Jazz Network be the first site to promote my latest recording. Words cannot express my gratitude to you for your dedication to the music and the artists.

With much love and gratitude,

Hi Jaijai,

Stopping by to show you some love and tell you just how much I appreciate all you've been doing here, not just for me but for this incredible community of jazz musicians. I see that The Jazz Network is growing in leaps and bounds daily and want you to know that I recognize the importance of what's going on here, musicians having a place to connect with each other, young musicians having a place to meet and be mentored by musicians who have been around the block. You've created a beautiful space here and it's obvious that folks are feeling very much at home. Thanks for sharing your time, your heart, your soul. This is a huge commitment and you've taken it on with such determination. I wish you and The Jazz Network continued success and support you in all you're doing.

“But let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between us. Love one another, and let the love be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.”

This is how I have felt and continue to feel since I joined The Jazz Network on March 4th 2008.
If we look back at our Village Elders one sees how they worked together to achieve and be innovative, and thanks to Jaijai and thejazznetwork.ning we are able to continue on the same path as our Village Elders.

"Thanks to Jaijai for creating this wonderful site. She has drawn on her own extensive history in music to make a truly comfortable place for "unusual" kindred spirits to meet, share and motivate. It's been uplifting, comforting and facinating to meet fellow musicians from cultures and countries around the world."

What a great place you have created, Jaijai. Thank you so much for your dedication and vision. We musicians benefit immensely, as it brings us closer together, allows for many of us to reconnect, or discover each other for the first time. I am still getting acquainted with the enormous benefits of having this independent place for communication between all of us - artists, fans, promoters, etc., and it is a real honor for me to be featured on the Jazz Network Main Page.
