Karrin Allyson Live in San Diego

Karrin Allyson divided up her very tasty one and a half hour set at the Seville Theater, in San Diego, into three parts. She did some gutsy blues, some suave Brazilian and some very traditional jazz lines, such as Jordu, all to an appreciative sold out audience. With a very steady and supporting group in back of her she displayed her now classic and very identifiable voice to perfection. Backed by Guitarist, Larry Koonse, bassist, Tom Warrington and Todd Strait on drums, whether playing the blue… Continue

Puerto Rico Jazz Festival

Well, after an eleven year hiatus my wife and I have decided to attend this year's Puerto Rico Jazz Festival. The lineup is a great one with Jerry Gonzalez and the Fort Apace Band, Pat Metheny, Dave Valentin, Ahmad Jamal and many more. Considered to be one of the best festivals in the Caribbean, the Puerto Rican audience gets totally involved with the music while the sets are long, the music great and the weather balmy while the rice and beans are ever tasty. In a future blog I will try to write… Continue

CD Review: Bill O'Connell, Dave Valentin and Richie Flores - Triple Play

Tracks: Triple Play; Flying By; Machu Picchu; A Call for Sanity; Just In Time; Second Son; Cravo e Canela; Afro Blue; Dansette; You’ve Changed. Bill O’Connell has had a long standing musical association with Dave Valentin. Both, have made mass contributions to the extension of Latin Jazz. Bill’s somewhat stolid musical character has been a successful compliment to Dave’s often animated approach to the flute. On “Triple Play” they take it a step further inventing a sort of “Chamber Approa… Continue

Gonzalo Rubalcaba in San Diego

For quite some time, since listening to three or four of his CDs, I've been trying to catch up with Gonzalo Rubalcaba. Finally, he has made his debut appearance in the San Diego area and I was there, a part of it. It was an incredible three hours of jazz. His music is an introspective journey that has strong power and can transform your personal feelings toward his art and music. The emotions I came away with could be equated to that of reading a novel containing many twists and turns while the… Continue

Andy Bey Live in San Diego

Andy Bey in San Diego I have said it countless times in my reviews and interviews: It has become so difficult to be able to identify many musicians based solely on their sound and style. There is one very gifted musician on the scene today whose style is so easily recognizable after singing only two notes. This would be Andy Bey. Finally having the chance to catch Andy live, we rushed down to San Diego for a session of Jazz 88.3 Live at the San Diego City College in downtown San Diego. Andy p… Continue

"I think that what Jaijai Jackson has done with the Jazz Network shows how the eternal love for this music is passed down from generation to generation. The fire her father lit in her has burned brightly and has inspired her to pass this torch on to future generations. I'm very proud to be featured and I'm very happy that Jazz has a voice and spirit like Jaijai looking after it."

“But let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between us. Love one another, and let the love be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.”

This is how I have felt and continue to feel since I joined The Jazz Network on March 4th 2008.
If we look back at our Village Elders one sees how they worked together to achieve and be innovative, and thanks to Jaijai and thejazznetwork.ning we are able to continue on the same path as our Village Elders.

What a great place you have created, Jaijai. Thank you so much for your dedication and vision. We musicians benefit immensely, as it brings us closer together, allows for many of us to reconnect, or discover each other for the first time. I am still getting acquainted with the enormous benefits of having this independent place for communication between all of us - artists, fans, promoters, etc., and it is a real honor for me to be featured on the Jazz Network Main Page.

Hi Jaijai,

Stopping by to show you some love and tell you just how much I appreciate all you've been doing here, not just for me but for this incredible community of jazz musicians. I see that The Jazz Network is growing in leaps and bounds daily and want you to know that I recognize the importance of what's going on here, musicians having a place to connect with each other, young musicians having a place to meet and be mentored by musicians who have been around the block. You've created a beautiful space here and it's obvious that folks are feeling very much at home. Thanks for sharing your time, your heart, your soul. This is a huge commitment and you've taken it on with such determination. I wish you and The Jazz Network continued success and support you in all you're doing.
