Animal skins and two sticks started everything...

Drummer-percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, producer, project studio owner, Yolanda Adams, Logic Studio, WAVES, BFD2, McDonalds fries, royalty checks, Formula 1 racing, Halo 3...

The Official Bio:

Grammy®, Dove® and Stellar® Award nominated producer Michael Coston hails from Queens, NY. Influenced by musical parents he found drumming to be his primary instrument at the age of three. Simultaneously maintaining his extraordinary talent for art as well as music he expanded quickly with both art forms learning to play a multitude of instruments.

A product of the gifted LaGuardia High School of Music & Art in upper Manhattan he indulged heavily in the arts and developed his passion for jazz music to the likes of Miles Davis and John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Wayne Shorter, Return To Forever and The Mahavishnu Orchestra. Despite being an art student he would take every opportunity available to sit-in with the jazz band and grow to idolize the styles of master drummers Elvin Jones, Billy Cobham, Tony Williams, Lenny White, Omar Hakim, Kenny Washington and Narada Michael Walden amongst others.

He then elected to pursue his artistic roots into the field of Architecture where he studied at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Yet his love for one art form did not diminish the other. During his college years he established various bands which performed Top 40 gigs at clubs throughout New York and Long Island. Following college as an architect he established a recording studio in his Brooklyn brownstone apartment where he produced artist demos and further refined his composing and engineering skills.

With that initial success he relocated his studio to Rockefeller Center in midtown Manhattan where he further expanded his production and publishing business and caliber of talent. After a streak of Jazz, Pop and R&B projects with aspiring popular artists he then turned to building his catalog of songs which among others included co-producing two Grammy, Dove and Stellar award nominated albums for the phenomenal vocalist Yolanda Adams.

Working from his personally owned recording studio, he is now heavily involved with composing a wide spectrum of music for filmscore, video entertainment software and commercial projects as well as his own personal compilation of unique Jazz and R&B discographies.

It’s a rare occasion when you meet someone who you feel a real connection to … Someone who possesses a kind spirit, unyielding generosity and a dedication to the jazz community beyond expectations.

Jaijai, thank you so much for creating such a fantastic website for the jazz community. You’ve helped artists connect with each other around the world.

I’m proud to have The Jazz Network be the first site to promote my latest recording. Words cannot express my gratitude to you for your dedication to the music and the artists.

With much love and gratitude,

Hi Jaijai,

Stopping by to show you some love and tell you just how much I appreciate all you've been doing here, not just for me but for this incredible community of jazz musicians. I see that The Jazz Network is growing in leaps and bounds daily and want you to know that I recognize the importance of what's going on here, musicians having a place to connect with each other, young musicians having a place to meet and be mentored by musicians who have been around the block. You've created a beautiful space here and it's obvious that folks are feeling very much at home. Thanks for sharing your time, your heart, your soul. This is a huge commitment and you've taken it on with such determination. I wish you and The Jazz Network continued success and support you in all you're doing.

“But let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between us. Love one another, and let the love be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.”

This is how I have felt and continue to feel since I joined The Jazz Network on March 4th 2008.
If we look back at our Village Elders one sees how they worked together to achieve and be innovative, and thanks to Jaijai and thejazznetwork.ning we are able to continue on the same path as our Village Elders.

"Thanks to Jaijai for creating this wonderful site. She has drawn on her own extensive history in music to make a truly comfortable place for "unusual" kindred spirits to meet, share and motivate. It's been uplifting, comforting and facinating to meet fellow musicians from cultures and countries around the world."

What a great place you have created, Jaijai. Thank you so much for your dedication and vision. We musicians benefit immensely, as it brings us closer together, allows for many of us to reconnect, or discover each other for the first time. I am still getting acquainted with the enormous benefits of having this independent place for communication between all of us - artists, fans, promoters, etc., and it is a real honor for me to be featured on the Jazz Network Main Page.
