Tell us a little about you....
The Yoginis began in 2003 when I decided to put together a musical project that was based on music I heard inside me but no one else had heard before. Having grown up in Europe and the States, and later ventured into Asia and India on the spiritual path, I was hearing a new music that entertwined all the musics I had been influenced by, and distilled in my subconscious mind into a new, intergrated sound which had recognizable influences from the other styles, but was not itself any of those styles.

I know musicians from all over the world, masters of different styles from different traditions, and I wanted to bring them together in the music just as they had come together in my circle of friendship across the globe.

I was raised a military brat in Europe and the States in the 60s and 70s, and played piano since age 7. My most notable teachers are Eddie Paolantonio of Raleigh, NC, a longtime disciple of the great Lennie Tristano, and currently, Jovino Santos Neto, the famous Brazilian pianist and 15-year veteran of Hermeto Pascoal's ensemble. Was also a teacher with Youth Advancement Through Music and Art (YATMA) a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching music and art to handicapped and at-risk youth.
How did you hear about the Jazz Network?
Sax player Chris Burnett sent a myspace bulletin about it.

Just getting started on the jazz network

I'm just getting going on here. I need to put up songs, testimonials, and pics and then I think it will be good to go. I think there's a good market segment for this that separates the jazz musicians out from the masses on myspace. Hopefully listeners and promoters will use this resource to find people like me and get some collaborations/shows/projects going that will help everybody and the help the music.Cheers.

I like what you wrote on one of the pages about being a band leader...so many people think that they just need to find one good booking agent...truth is, most of us have to do it ourselves...after years of trying to do it all and lacking support, it weighs on you. I've been there and I would say I am in "retirement" if there is such a thing...from music scene, anyway. 30 years ago, I was working all the time...and I didn't have to even try. But after so many years...well, guess that's why they call it the blues. Gotta go...lightning is about to strike! Great sounds, BTW. Best regards to you and your great band. ~ Shar

Hi Yogi,
Got your bug issue. First clean your cookies/internet files. Then are you loading up mp3's or mp4's? The site only takes mp3's it will load up an mp4 but won't play it. As for the videos, I've been loading up youtube videos tonight with no problem so try cleanin' those cookies and let me know if you are still having issues.

It’s a rare occasion when you meet someone who you feel a real connection to … Someone who possesses a kind spirit, unyielding generosity and a dedication to the jazz community beyond expectations.

Jaijai, thank you so much for creating such a fantastic website for the jazz community. You’ve helped artists connect with each other around the world.

I’m proud to have The Jazz Network be the first site to promote my latest recording. Words cannot express my gratitude to you for your dedication to the music and the artists.

With much love and gratitude,

Hi Jaijai,

Stopping by to show you some love and tell you just how much I appreciate all you've been doing here, not just for me but for this incredible community of jazz musicians. I see that The Jazz Network is growing in leaps and bounds daily and want you to know that I recognize the importance of what's going on here, musicians having a place to connect with each other, young musicians having a place to meet and be mentored by musicians who have been around the block. You've created a beautiful space here and it's obvious that folks are feeling very much at home. Thanks for sharing your time, your heart, your soul. This is a huge commitment and you've taken it on with such determination. I wish you and The Jazz Network continued success and support you in all you're doing.

“But let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between us. Love one another, and let the love be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.”

This is how I have felt and continue to feel since I joined The Jazz Network on March 4th 2008.
If we look back at our Village Elders one sees how they worked together to achieve and be innovative, and thanks to Jaijai and thejazznetwork.ning we are able to continue on the same path as our Village Elders.

"Thanks to Jaijai for creating this wonderful site. She has drawn on her own extensive history in music to make a truly comfortable place for "unusual" kindred spirits to meet, share and motivate. It's been uplifting, comforting and facinating to meet fellow musicians from cultures and countries around the world."

What a great place you have created, Jaijai. Thank you so much for your dedication and vision. We musicians benefit immensely, as it brings us closer together, allows for many of us to reconnect, or discover each other for the first time. I am still getting acquainted with the enormous benefits of having this independent place for communication between all of us - artists, fans, promoters, etc., and it is a real honor for me to be featured on the Jazz Network Main Page.
