Tell us a little about you....
Hello;
Many of you know me as the wife of 'Legendary Jazz Vocalist Jimmy Scott' a.k.a. "Little Jimmy Scott". Others know me as a lover of classic soul music from my Chitlin` Curcit days in the 1960's when I was the common-law wife of George "Smity" Smith the original lead singer of The Manhattans.
Some call me 'Soul Sister' a name that was given to me in 1966 when members of The Jive Five would refer to me as their Little Soul Sister.

My other interest include collecting all things related to 'classic soul music' and all things related to my husband's life and career.

I also love the outdoors, grew up mainly on a mountain lake and in the burbs of northern N.J. I raised wolves & dogs, spent alot of time in the Western U.S. with like-minded friends on adventures and went on an over 1000 mile dogsled race in the Canadian Yukon, as well as dogsledding wilderness adventuers in Alaska. I collect things and books related to those adventures. I also love Native American history, culture, & jewelry.
As an adult I experienced many things in black culture and family life throughout the decades, hung out in clubs from Harlem to midtown N.Y.C., the Chitlin` Curcit, etc... and lived in a couple hoods, lol, loved vacationing in the Caribbean, love the islands, the energy of the people and laid-back lifestyle. My dream, to retire there one day to the simple island life. 0:>)

Today I live in fabulous Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world, taking care of my husband which is my 'number 1' priority as his wife, care-giver, and personal manager, as well as travel the world on tour with my husband and his fabulous band 'The Jazz Expressions'.

It's nice to be here on the Jazz Network, thanks Chazz for inviting me (& Jimmy).

Peace & Blessings;
Jeanie Scott

Hi Yolanda,
Jimmy appreciates your thoughts and sends his gratitude to you.

We are off again to N.Y. for a "gig" on an early flight so must keep it short.

Peace & Blessings to you.

Hi Jeanie, at the point of writing last time I hadn't finished reading Faith in Time. Now I have. It brought up a lot of thoughts about life, about what's in a life, about what I want my life to reflect, about the themes and concerns of our lives, the passions and driving forces that stay with us..about how our childhood remains, no matter what else happens to us, or how long we manage to live, the central dominating influence of our lives. (knowing this hopefully makes us better parents than our parents)..but most of all it made me think about music. It made me listen to Jimmy a lot and listen to others a lot.. and to myself as well... in a different way. I wondered about my phrasing, my timing and where it came from. I wondered about my staunch, determined concentration on a good lyric to tell a story and to take others on a journey about universal truths..truths to do with love and loss and longing. It made me more committed not to compromise. It made me realise that I have been influenced by Jimmy and through others singers who were influenced by Jimmy and that we are all part of this amazing continuum..this legacy of Jimmy Scott's. And so I want to acknowledge that. Fashion for particular genres come and go... but the amazing, sophisticated, soulful music of Jimmy Scott endures in so many ways but none more powerfully than through all the singers that inherited in their psyche something (even if it's just a smidge) of Jimmy's style.
Please pass on my love, esteem and gratitude.

Well thankyou for the response and for the invitation to be a friend on this network. I think I'll say yes (ha ha) . Don't worry I know the book isn't current it's just taken me some time to get to read it. I'm sure lots has changed since then. 2001 is a long time ago..already! Where do the years go?

Most of the time, despite the actual getting old factor which is a real pain, I really do believe life gets better as we get older. And having a shitty childhood gives us insights and emotions lost on many others. I always think it's ironic that just as we start to feel better about ourselves, (no matter who we are) we start the physical decline. I am just starting to do the things I really WANT to do. Oh.. there's that thing about "time" again. Time.. time.. time. Anyway honoured to hear from you. Take good care and I'll do my best to remain a loyal fan and spread the word here in Australia to all and sundry about the wonders of "little" Jimmy Scott just in case they don't already know. xx

Hello from Australia... I just want to say that, coincidentally, I am currently reading about Jimmy's life. In fact I was reading his biography at 4am this morning so lots of images and phrases are fresh in my mind..when I read a book about some one I listen to them a lot so that I really get into the spirit of their life's work...then this morning I recognized your page...providence..... an opportunity to show my gratitude! Thankyou for all the beautiful music and inspiration. Everything was worth it as so many lives have been touched. Soul, jazz and blues are my thing. Bless you both. Yolanda

"I think that what Jaijai Jackson has done with the Jazz Network shows how the eternal love for this music is passed down from generation to generation. The fire her father lit in her has burned brightly and has inspired her to pass this torch on to future generations. I'm very proud to be featured and I'm very happy that Jazz has a voice and spirit like Jaijai looking after it."

“But let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between us. Love one another, and let the love be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.”

This is how I have felt and continue to feel since I joined The Jazz Network on March 4th 2008.
If we look back at our Village Elders one sees how they worked together to achieve and be innovative, and thanks to Jaijai and thejazznetwork.ning we are able to continue on the same path as our Village Elders.

What a great place you have created, Jaijai. Thank you so much for your dedication and vision. We musicians benefit immensely, as it brings us closer together, allows for many of us to reconnect, or discover each other for the first time. I am still getting acquainted with the enormous benefits of having this independent place for communication between all of us - artists, fans, promoters, etc., and it is a real honor for me to be featured on the Jazz Network Main Page.

Hi Jaijai,

Stopping by to show you some love and tell you just how much I appreciate all you've been doing here, not just for me but for this incredible community of jazz musicians. I see that The Jazz Network is growing in leaps and bounds daily and want you to know that I recognize the importance of what's going on here, musicians having a place to connect with each other, young musicians having a place to meet and be mentored by musicians who have been around the block. You've created a beautiful space here and it's obvious that folks are feeling very much at home. Thanks for sharing your time, your heart, your soul. This is a huge commitment and you've taken it on with such determination. I wish you and The Jazz Network continued success and support you in all you're doing.
