Tell us a little about you....
As a performer, you'll find everyone who has heard Saxsmo play live will agree that James Saxsmo Gates is without a doubt one of the most exciting sax players in the country and we all know that it's truly just a matter of time before Saxsmo takes his place at the top of the Jazz charts alongside all of the other notable present day saxophonists.

Saxsmo is a graduate of the venerable Berklee College of Music and a protege of Billy Kilson, Terri Lynn Carrington, Lynne Fidmont, Walter Beasley, Alex Bugnon, Freddie Fox, Cyrus Chestnut, Brandon Marsalis, Delfeayo Marsalis, Jeff Tain Watts, Shelia Ford, Marvin Smitty Smith, Wallace Roney, Makoto Ozone, Ron Savage, Billy Hart, Omar Hakim, Lala Hathaway, Greg Osby, Kevin Eubanks, Robin Eubanks, Wil Calhoun, Donald Harrison, and many many others.. From Be-Bop, to Straight Ahead, to Swing, to Modern, to Progressive, to Smooth Jazz, when it comes to the language of Jazz, James Saxsmo Gates, is one of America's most fluent speakers of the language. A virtual encyclopedia of the genre, embodied all in one very special artist.

IT'S TIME is the new CD from James Saxsmo Gates. IT'S TIME is a great second solo CD from Saxsmo. It features great performances by James Gates, the great Fred Wesley, Robbie Cunningham, noted drummer and composer Nate Smith (who plays with Grammy winner Dave Holland), Hannon Lane, the prodigy - Brandon Lane, smooth jazz trumpeter - Bill McGee, noted pianist and educator - Dr. Weldon Hill, Tom Reaves on guitar, and a host of talented musicians.

IT'S TIME is a collection of ten great compositions featuring exciting performances by SAXSMO and friends. Several songs have been acclaimed as stand out singles by radio professionsals all around the country. The title track IT'S TIME features SAXSMO at his best laying down a memorable melody with a hip groove, UNLIMITED CHANCES is another stand out contemporary standard with a traditional quartet line up featuring Dr. Weldon Hill on piano, Billy Williams on Drums and Mike Hawkins (Cyrus Chestnut). You will definitely want to hear SAXSMO perform the Luther Vandross ballad I'D RATHER this song is going to get a lot of quiet storm airplay all around the globe.

The great FRED WESLEY is prominently featured on the classic jam AIN'T NO STOPPIN' US NOW. Fred came to town and blew the doors of the studio off. The live strings on this track and on I'D RATHER were arranged and conducted by one of the most talented producers and musicians around Hannon D. Lane. SAXSMO is also joined by his friend, partner and smooth jazz trumpeter BILL MCGEE on the funky duet SEXOPHONE this is a rompin' track with great horns played by Bill, James and Hannon.

If you're looking to add quality muisic to your collection then It's Time to realize you will never go wrong by adding a James Saxsmo Gates CD to your collection.

PS. My main partner on guitar is also your man Fred Wesley's touring guitarist, and agrees he's still "blowin the doors off" in performance!

It’s a rare occasion when you meet someone who you feel a real connection to … Someone who possesses a kind spirit, unyielding generosity and a dedication to the jazz community beyond expectations.

Jaijai, thank you so much for creating such a fantastic website for the jazz community. You’ve helped artists connect with each other around the world.

I’m proud to have The Jazz Network be the first site to promote my latest recording. Words cannot express my gratitude to you for your dedication to the music and the artists.

With much love and gratitude,

Hi Jaijai,

Stopping by to show you some love and tell you just how much I appreciate all you've been doing here, not just for me but for this incredible community of jazz musicians. I see that The Jazz Network is growing in leaps and bounds daily and want you to know that I recognize the importance of what's going on here, musicians having a place to connect with each other, young musicians having a place to meet and be mentored by musicians who have been around the block. You've created a beautiful space here and it's obvious that folks are feeling very much at home. Thanks for sharing your time, your heart, your soul. This is a huge commitment and you've taken it on with such determination. I wish you and The Jazz Network continued success and support you in all you're doing.

“But let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between us. Love one another, and let the love be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.”

This is how I have felt and continue to feel since I joined The Jazz Network on March 4th 2008.
If we look back at our Village Elders one sees how they worked together to achieve and be innovative, and thanks to Jaijai and thejazznetwork.ning we are able to continue on the same path as our Village Elders.

"Thanks to Jaijai for creating this wonderful site. She has drawn on her own extensive history in music to make a truly comfortable place for "unusual" kindred spirits to meet, share and motivate. It's been uplifting, comforting and facinating to meet fellow musicians from cultures and countries around the world."

What a great place you have created, Jaijai. Thank you so much for your dedication and vision. We musicians benefit immensely, as it brings us closer together, allows for many of us to reconnect, or discover each other for the first time. I am still getting acquainted with the enormous benefits of having this independent place for communication between all of us - artists, fans, promoters, etc., and it is a real honor for me to be featured on the Jazz Network Main Page.
